Hyperstrange‘s first-person fantasy action-RPG ELDERBORN is full of energetic and violent fights.
The game is promoted as a Metal Action Fantasy Slasher, which pretty much sums up the atmosphere one expects a Conan-inspired title to deliver. Set in times when tribes of barbarians have to find a new dark messiah, the player is tasked to explore the City of Doom and uncover its secrets. This obviously results in bloody carnage involving many severed heads of mostly undead creatures and monsters.
While the focus is clearly on melee combat, it’s not a brainless button basher, as the gameplay is reminiscent of Dark Souls‘ mastery of weapons and skills. The former comprises 11 tools of destruction and the latter means a lot of leveling up and unlocking. Even if this all sounds like yet another imitator (to be honest, it’s more along the lines of the classic Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, only without the magic), it’s clear that with a heavy metal soundtrack and a few electronic beats thrown in, the game seems to be more unapolegetic fun.
The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until February 6, 2020, at 6 PM UTC. Console versions for Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch are to be released later in 2020.
