Game release: “LUNA The Shadow Dust” (PC)

Lantern Studio‘s, Coconut Island Games‘ and Application Systems Heidelberg‘s point-and-click adventure game LUNA The Shadow Dust presents a fantasy tale that doesn’t require any words to enchant.

Application Systems Heidelberg is always good for point-and-clickers that are either visually or narratively different and of a high quality in gameplay terms. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play this game during my indie tour at gamescom 2019, even though I was quite excited about it. Telling a story about a young boy who embarks on a journey to an ancient tower at the end of the world to somehow learn about past memories is already a mysterious premise, but as he’s accompanied by a strange cat-like creature, the feeling of being transported to another world is even more tangible.

Presented in a beautiful hand-drawn style might not be an innovation in indie games, but having the story told without any dialogues and instead with wordless cinematics is something that is certainly a unique selling point. The puzzle design seems to avoid some pitfalls of the genre, mainly having no hidden items and requiring no backtracking. As one controls two characters, these conundrums still retain a sense of complexity, so one shouldn’t expect a casual game at all.

The title is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until February 20, 2020, at 10 AM UTC. With the graphics and music being particularly nice, both the soundtrack and artbook can be bought separately as well.
