Game release: “Iron Danger” (PC)

Action Squad Studios‘ and Daedalic Entertainment‘s tactical fantasy RPG Iron Danger provides a unique time manipulation twist.

I already saw the game in action during the second day of gamescom 2019 and it was one of the surprise hits due to its main concept of rewinding time if one’s strategy failed. Of course there’s a narrative explanation for this, involving a village girl called Kipuno who has been granted the power over time and death. As the witch queen Lowhee from the north marches an army against the city of Kalevala, it’s up to the heroine to serve as a defense against these dark forces, with the help of two companions.

Being able to rewind time for up to 5 seconds, one won’t be able to make up for all past mistakes, but at least one won’t see the game over screen and instead one can try out different strategies to defeat enemies, often making use of the environments. Although combat is in real-time, the game controls like a turn-based strategy game, as one can pause it and think about each character’s unique abilities, turning the game more into a puzzler than a traditional RPG. Without any level grinding, the idea of character progression through pivotal story moments might even win over people who are usually intimidated by expansive skill trees.

The game is out now on PC with a 15% launch discount that lasts until April 1, 2020, at 3 PM UTC. In addition, one can also purchase the Supporter Pack which includes an artbook, a graphic novel, the soundtrack and a collection of wallpapers, while a surprise cosmetic in-game item will be unlocked in the near future.
