Epic Games Store‘s new freebies to unlock are Frictional Games‘ survival horror adventure Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Butterscotch Shenanigans‘ crafting action-RPG Crashlands.
As the offer has already been available for almost a week and only a few hours are left before it expires, I’ll keep this as short as possible. I already reviewed Amnesia: The Dark Descent in this article, and the game comes highly recommended to those who like subtle but terrifying Gothic horror with a touch of Lovecraft, plus quite a good amount of puzzle solving.
Anyone reading the word “crafting” might already have given up on Crashlands, as so many indie (and AAA) titles have excessively incorporated this gameplay mechanic, but this would do it a disservice, because the developer is fully aware of how ridiculous the whole concept can become. So what better way than engaging the player with a refreshing sense of humor, e.g. taming all sorts of funny-looking creatures and creating even more outlandish things along the way? Judging from the trailer, this should be more fun than what lots of other games desperately lack: entertaining the player with more self-awareness.
Both games can now be added to the Epic Games Store account for free, but only until today, May 7, 2020, at 5:00 PM.
