Pathea‘s atmospheric puzzle game Ever Forward presents a world between reality and imagination.
Having children as protagonists is always a difficult proposition, not only because of voice acting, but because how one relates to them as an adult. The best way to achieve immersion is to have some dream-like visuals or a storyline that involves a dystopian future where going outside can be dangerous. Being a child, it’s obvious that young girl Maya’s curiosity ultimately wins, even if it means pushing quite a few boxes in surreal surroundings.
In order to unlock memories and confront fears to learn more about the secrets of the world, puzzles have to be solved. Piecing together fragments of the past also involves a bit of platforming that isn’t made easier by teleportation and gravity control, while stealth sequences are part of the experience as well. What all sounds like standard puzzle platformer fare is embedded in some impressive-looking vistas that make the journey of self-discovery that much more engaging.
The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until August 1, 2020, at 1 PM UTC.
