Shifting Tides Studio and Iceberg Interactive‘s first-person puzzler The Sojourn has finally arrived on other PC stores.
Two years ago on the third day of gamescom 2018 I had the pleasure to try this game for myself, and I expected it to be released a year or so later. It actually did, but only as an Epic Games Store exclusive and on PS4 as well as on Xbox One. With GOG and Steam users now also being able to experience it, it still looks and sounds like another world come to life, a world in which one is easily lost with lots of environmental puzzles to solve.
It’s still not quite clear what the story is about, or who the character is, as one is thrown into a mysterious world where the only goal is to follow guiding lights that somehow reveal reality and banish the darkness. This is done by solving puzzles in four chapters that are visually different and introduce various new challenges, as any good puzzler does. As each area is a self-contained puzzle, comparisons to The Witness (see game release news) that is more about interconnected conundrums are not valid, which might make it more accessible and instantly rewarding.
The game is out now on GOG and Steam with a 33% launch discount that lasts until October 6, 2020, at 4 PM UTC.
