Playmestudio and Raw Fury‘s first-person tech-noir mystery adventure The Signifier takes a closer look at memories and dreams.

The story about Frederick Russell who specializes in AI and psychology and uses the experimental deep brain scanner Dreamwalker to dive into people’s minds is highly reminiscent of the movie Dreamscape, and it’s not surprising to learn that Russell is asked to investigate the death of the vice president of a big tech company, leading to questions about the danger of artificial intelligence and their impact on people’s privacy.

Déjà vus in storytelling aside, it’s probably the gameplay that is the most interesting, as one moves between three dimensions: reality, memories and dreams. By using different powers and tools, one learns more about people’s personalities in order to uncover the mystery behind the vice president’s death, which obviously results in many surreal moments.

The game is out now on PC with a 15% discount lasting until tomorrow, October 22, 2020, at 1 PM UTC. There’s also a collector’s edition that includes the soundtrack and is 10% off its original price.
