Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division‘s first-person sci-fi action-RPG The Outer Worlds finally makes its hyperspace jump to other digital PC platforms than the Epic Games Store.

Lately it’s become the norm rather than the exception that many games are first released on Epic’s digital platform and then show up on various consoles, only to arrive on GOG and Steam a year later, as could be seen with Afterparty. The good thing is that one receives a game with the latest patches and (most) DLC, saving some more waiting time.

Player freedom is key in this open-world game, as one decides which kind of character explores the galaxy to uncover a conspiracy that could end in the destruction of the Halcyon colony where various factions vy for the player’s participation. Different character builds don’t only mean different ways of playing the game, but also who becomes part of one’s ship crew and how the story plays out with different endings. This might not be anything new to the RPG genre, but the humorous dialogues and over-the-top action indicate that Obsidian Entertainment seem to have cut loose from working on existing franchises like the Fallout series and present a fun sci-fi world to lose countless of hours in and that reacts to the player’s actions.

The game was originally released in October 2019 as an Epic Games Store exclusive as well as on PS4 and Xbox One. Now after the Nintendo Switch version made its appearance in June this year, it’s now finally available on GOG and Steam with a 50% launch discount that lasts until November 2, 2020, at 4 PM UTC. There’s also the Season Pass that includes the already released Peril on Gorgon DLC, with Murder on Eridanos being scheduled for 2021.
