Amazon Prime Video in December 2020 had a bit of a quality drop with one rather unique superhero TV show.

TV shows:
Doom Patrol (Season 2) [6/10]

The first season of Doom Patrol (see Amazon Prime Video watchlist: May 2020) was surprisingly cool with many bonkers ideas, interesting characters, and one unexpected twist after another, let alone all the metafictional elements, including the narrator as the main villain. Unfortunately Season 2 spends too much time with characters talking about their life and feelings, something that so many long-running TV shows have suffered from. While there are still some strange and memorable scenes as well as emotional ones, the long runtime of around 1 hour for each episode results in boredom- The main storyline isn’t particularly exciting and only becomes interesting in the finale (although the beginning is also great), and it’s telling that there isn’t much tension despite the end of the world being near.
I had high expectations for the second season of Doom Patrol, and maybe it’s the freshness and number of inventive ideas of the first one that it can’t quite achieve, turning it therefore into a disappointment. Hopefully, the next season will spend less time on talking and has more action and unexpected twists with a more engaging main plot.
