Game release: “The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark” (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)

Spooky Doorway and Akupara Games‘ mystery detective adventure game The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark proves again that laughs and chills can coexist.

The first game was such a surprise hit when I reviewed it during the Halloween 2017 gaming special week, and since then there were a couple of other news (like the free DLC cases or Past gaming events: gamescom 2020, Day 2 articles). So it’s probably one of the most anticipated titles for me. Thankfully the newest season, comprising 6 individual cases, again focuses on the two detectives Francis McQueen and his partner Officer Dooley and takes place in the cursed city of Twin Lakes.

Investigating paranormal phenomena in the most unlikely of places, e.g. a local retirement home or an amateur wrestling circuit, should already make it clear that one should expect the unexpected and lots of funny lines. Of course there are more than enough puzzles to solve (unfortunately what the trailer shows is a bit disappointing, with those logic puzzles used in other games like TOHU) and many weird characters one meets along the way.

The game is out now on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with a 10% launch discount that lasts until April 22, 2021, at 1 PM UTC. In addition, the excellent first game is 55% off its original price at the moment as well, but only the PC version.
