Rhinotales‘ FMV adventure She Sees Red – Interactive Movie proves that there’s still a lot of life left in the troubled genre.

Despite all the problems FMV games have experienced in the 90ies and even later, games like The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery, Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, Simulacra and Simulacra 2 (see the invididual reviews) are great examples of how it could work in the past. She Sees Red – Interactive Movie shows that it’s possible to deliver suspense and some stunning action set-pieces, too, revolving around a female detective who investigates killings in a nightclub.

Many FMVs have suffered from poor acting and a rather sedate pacing, but this one looks quite different, although one should probably go for the original Russian version (with optional subtitles), as the dubbing isn’t very good. Still, with some surprisingly gory kills that could be from a modern slasher or John Wick flick and obviously different choices to make that lead to four possible endings, it’s an exciting new entry to the genre.

She Sees Red – Interactive Movie was originally released in July 2019 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with 70% launch discount that lasts until April 26, 2021, at 1 PM UTC.
