Piranha Games Inc. and Sold Out‘s sci-fi action-simulation MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries finally hits other digital stores than Epic Games.

The MechWarrior series has been around since 1989 (or even 1986 if one counts the tabletop game it’s based on), and even if I haven’t played any of the games, I’ve always been aware of its reputation as a hardcore simulation which requires a lot of learning keys and movements (similar to X-Wing: Collector’s CD-ROM, only on the ground).

Being part of a mercenary group, one jumps into BattleMechs in the year 3015 and fights for supremacy in various star systems, obviously for other corporations who have the money and power to hire these groups. The mechs are highly customizable and can be upgraded from parts of defeated enemies, but one doesn’t only engage in explosive fights. Being the leader of a mercenary company, one also has to maintain the mechs and their equipment, while hiring other MechWarriors as well as staying in touch with influential people is just as important.

The game was originally released on the Epic Games Store in December 2019, then on the Xbox Game Pass in May 2020, and is out now on both GOG and Steam. It’s available in a standard or the Dropship Collection which includes the first DLC Heroes of the Inner Sphere and digital extras (soundtracks, high-res backgrounds and a tech manual). If one decides to buy it on GOG, then will receive The Surge (see this GOG release news) for free. The offer lasts until June 2, 2021, at 12 PM UTC.
