Milestone reached: First Coronavirus vaccination

The ongoing pandemic might not be over, but at least my waiting time for the first COVID-19 vaccination is.

Yesterday, on July 11, 2021, I finally got my first (BioNTech) vaccination shot after having waited and tried for months to get an appointment. While some people have already received their second dosage and many haven’t had any side effects, I wasn’t so lucky.

Germany has always been slow in certain fields, and the way the Coronavirus situation has been and is still handled proves that the country hasn’t learned much. Living in the Heinsberg region, the first hit by the virus in 2020, it’s a shame that we apparently ran out of vaccination dosages.

However, after having tried for months/weeks to receive an online appointment via the Doctolib website and being told again and again there won’t be any soon due to the few vaccinations (even the much maligned AstraZeneca), I stumbled upon the official KVNO website and got one a week later… Oh, and while I’m writing this, the Doctolib website was suddenly updated and has appointments every 5 minutes…

Anyway, I’m happy to have finally received the first vaccination shot, even if it meant pains in the arm, hand, in addition to headaches and stomach pains. So yes, side effects kicked in for me, and I was lucky to have chosen a Sunday when I didn’t have to work or drive (fortunately the vaccination center was just 5 minutes away by car).

In August I’ll have my second vaccination, which is sadly after our planned honeymoon in Disneyland… Fingers crossed people behave with a bit of brain left in their head (doubtful with them taking long trips around the world and attending the unnecessary EM soccer event)…

To be continued…
