Game release: “Black Book” (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)

Morteshka and HypeTrain Digital‘s card-based RPG/adventure mix Black Book explores Northern Slavic mythology in an engaging storytelling way.

It’s no mystery that card-building RPGs are all the rage these days, but few of them can tell a story that isn’t all about saving the world from orcs and other fantasy enemies. Fortunately, this title is much more story-focused, being about young sorceress Vasilisa who investigates the strange circumstances under which her beloved died, resulting in her trying to find the Black Book that can grant the wielder any wish if he or she opens its 7 seals.

The more one reveals the seals’ secrets, the more powerful one becomes, while collecting spell cards and acquiring new skills helps defeating enemies, even if it means using demons for one’s purposes. With various puzzles and side-quests that teach about life in the Slavic countryside, complete with an in-game encyclopedia, it’s certainly much more than just another card-building game, especially since its art design and cinematic presentation make it stand out of the crowd.

The game is out now on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with a 15% launch discount that lasts until August 17, 2021, at 5 PM UTC.
