With so many interesting games recently released and not so much time to cover them all in time, let’s step back a few months to see what one might missed out on with Sketchbook Games, Fourth State, and Modus Games‘ adventure title Lost Words: Beyond the Page.
The power of words couldn’t be any more prominent than in this tale of young girl Izzy who writes in her personal diary, with the fantasy world literally coming alive with its letters. Its potent storytelling is attributed to the writing skills of Rhianna Pratchett who has already penned quite a few good stories, as can be seen with the Tomb Raider reboot.
In addition to a heartfelt story that links both the real world and the fantasy realm of Estoria Izzy traverses, it’s the gameplay that is the most intriguing part: One picks up words and arranges them in order to change the environment, making each page or level a unique puzzle and platformer challenge. It goes without saying that the game also looks and sounds great, with some lush watercolor graphics, great voice acting, and atmospheric music.
The game is out now on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
