EXOR Studios‘ strategy/action/RPG mix The Riftbreaker is as ambitious as it looks beautiful.

The first time I heard about the title or saw footage was during gamescom 2020, and the gameplay and visuals are still impressive today. One plays as captain Ashley S. Nowak who works as the titular scientist/commando in a mecha suit in order to prepare the planet Galatea 37 for human colonization. Breaking or rather traveling through rifts makes it possible to reach far away places and build another two-way rift that leads straight back to Earth.

The gameplay consists of various genre templates: base building and defense as in an RTS or tower defense title, exploration and survival as well as resource management. Gathering the right materials and fighting back alien aggressors or wildlife, while keeping the infrastructure intact requires both strategic thinking as well as fast reflexes, making it difficult to put the game in either genre. If the waves of enemies weren’t tough enough, harsh weather conditions make the construction work even more challenging.

The game is out now on PC, PS5 and Xbox One Series X/S with a 10% launch discount that lasts until tomorrow, October 21, 2021, at 8 AM UTC. The original soundtrack can also be bought separately with the same discount.
