Mousetrap Games and Daedalic Entertainment‘s tower defense puzzle game JARS makes for a fun and spooky time in October.

Halloween doesn’t always have to be scary or bloody, as some games can use horror themes and turn them into something fun. Here it’s about young boy Victor who makes a trip down his family basement to get a jar of pickles for his mother, only to discover that there are lots of creepy crawlies trying to destroy a sarcophagus and that Dracula is somewhere, too, which might be the end of the world if the hero can’t save the day.

It all sounds rather weird and doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially since there is a book with pages missing that also has something to do with the situation. The title of the game is important, too, because one doesn’t only protect the sarcophagus (or rather more than one at times) by using other creatures that have to be placed and upgraded strategically. One also has to break the jars which might have something useful in them. While it looks a bit chaotic, the hand-drawn art style and fun music should make for a puzzle game that fit the Halloween atmosphere rather nicely.

The game is out now on PC and Nintendo Switch with a 20% launch discount that lasts until October 27, 2021, at 4 PM UTC.
