Daniel Mullins Games and Devolver Digital‘s deckbuilding card battle game Inscryption embraces the unexpected and frightening unknown.

Anyone who has played or at least watched gameplay of the developer’s previous game Pony Island (see this game release news) knows that one is in for lots of surprises despite even the most well-known genre mechanics. This time it’s not an unusual mix of arcade and adventure games, but of deckbuilding, rogue-like, and escape room titles.

The twist is that psychological horror plays a big part in the experience, as the other player isn’t of this world, and with darkness surrounding the gaming table, one certainly won’t find any comfort in placing cards. Deckbuilding is just as weird, as not only drafting, but surgery and self-mutilation might be necessary. It’s definitely a disturbing experience unlike any other card game out there, which makes it all the more intriguing.

The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until November 1, 2021, 2 PM UTC. The soundtrack is also available with the same discount and can be bought separately.
