Jeff Winner and 1C Entertainment‘s psychological horror adventure game Horror Story: Hallowseed creates some random post-Halloween goosebumps.

With so many horror titles released around the witching hour time, it’s difficult to stick out from the crowd. But with modern horror movie inspirations like The Conjuring 1+2 and Insidious 1-3, this project is pretty ambitious, especially since it’s the first chapter of a series of other instalments.

The premise of three friends camping in the woods and one of them, Michael, waking up alone in a completely different place already makes for an unsettling experience. While exploration, puzzle solving and stealth or rather escape sequences aren’t very new, the idea of the micro-scares system sounds intriguing, as the scares are triggered randomly at times, although they depend on individual choices. How this and the AI reacting to the player’s actions in the same way exactly works remains to be seen, though.

The game is out now on PC with a 20% launch discount that lasts until tomorrow, November 4, 2021, at 6 PM UTC.
