GOG release: “SHEEPO”

Kyle Thompson‘s pacifist metroidvania platformer SHEEPO is still full of action.

Most metroidvania games are about gathering tools to progress and shoot as many enemies as possible to stay alive, but in SHEEPO there’s no combat whatsoever, only platforming and exploration. Playing as a sheep creature that can change its form, one arrives on an unknown planet to collect samples/eggs of the life forms for an intergalactic species database, but these are usually guarded by a not so friendly boss.

The twist is that one doesn’t only gather information by touching creatures, but one transforms into them, allowing the titular hero to dig, fly, or teleport around. Focusing on non-violent gameplay, it seems that most actions revolve around evading things and not being killed. Needless to say, the game looks great in motion with its quirky creature design and alien world to explore, setting itself apart visually from other metroidvania games, too.

SHEEPO was originally released in August 2020 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 20% launch discount that lasts until tomorrow, November 5, 2021, at 2 PM UTC. The soundtrack can also be bought separately with the same discount.
