It’s no secret that the German development team has done a very fine job to refine the RTS mechanics of the Commandos games with Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados III. While the latter didn’t have a particularly great DLC with Money for the Vultures, the newest stand-alone expansion of the first title that made the company famous looks to be just as enjoyable as the base game. I was already excited when it was announced during gamescom 2021.
Again taking place during the early Edo period in Japan, the story might focus on the rather cold assassin Aiko, but it’s also part of the original game’s main plot. This means the whole gang returns with their individual abilities, as they try to hunt down Aiko’s former master Lady Chiyo. So one might learn more about the woman’s past and again experience some finely honed sneak-and-kill gameplay with 3 main missions and 3 shorter interlude levels that are set in new environments.
