Epic Games Store‘s fourth day of freebies includes The Astronauts‘ mystery exploration game The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Three years ago I wrote a review about The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and while I certainly didn’t think it was the memorable masterpiece so many of the critics’ voices in the trailer below make it out to be, it’s still worth revisiting or playing for the first time.

The reason is probably that despite its narrative and gameplay shortcomings, exploring the calm but also somehow creepy Red Creek Valley as a paranormal detective to find out about local murders and the disappearance of a young boy was strangely compelling.

The game can be added to the Epic Games Store account for free until today, December 20, 2021, at 5:00 PM.
