GOG release: “Death’s Gambit: Afterlife – Ashes of Vados” DLC

White Rabbit and Serenity Forge‘s 2D action/RPG-platformer Death’s Gambit: Afterlife got even more cruel with its Ashes of Vados DLC on GOG.

Four years ago I covered the original game in this game release news, which shows how much commitment has gone into the new DLC Ashes of Vados. The visual references to the Castlevania series are obvious, and the formula of brutal combat in a Gothic setting hasn’t changed.

One has to fight against The Eldritch Hand (which has some H.P. Lovecraft touches), but also against a boss who seems to have been defeated before: Ash (maybe another reference to the “Evil Dead” movies?). In addition to the boss fights, the Halls of Cruelty serve for more deaths in platforming challenges; the combat arena and boss rush allows for more fights against tough enemies, while quite a few game modes add even more unpredictability and madness to proceedings.

Ashes of Vados was originally released around two weeks ago and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 35% launch discount that lasts until tomorrow, February 28, at 2 PM UTC.
