Toukana Interactive‘s building strategy game Dorfromantik is out of its puzzling early access phase.

German developers are often influenced by board games or their natural surroundings, and in this case it’s quite obvious, not only because of the title which means “village romanticism”. As strange as it sounds in translation, the main idea is great: building a peaceful world in the idyllic village style by placing tiles on a board and connecting them.

Anyone who has played Settlers of Catan will be familiar with the tiles’ shapes and also pacing, because one can take the time to think about where to put them in order to earn the most points. As in a boardgame, the tiles are procedurally generated (or drawn) and one has to place them strategically, preferably to form groups of landscapes like forests, villages, or water next to each other. There are also additional quests involving transportation systems or animals. Suffice it to say that it looks and sounds like a lovely distraction from hectic everyday life.

The game entered early access in March 2021 and is now finally out on PC with a 30% launch discount that lasts until May 5, 2022, at 8 AM UTC. It can either be bought separately or together with its two volumes of the soundtrack.
