Tag of Joy and Thunderful Publishing‘s point-and-clicker Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit keeps a classic genre alive with a European touch.

Adventure games have always found a lot of success in European countries, so it’s only fitting that this one takes place there, too. Developed by a Lithuanian team, it’s also no surprise that it’s about Chicago girl Milda who inherits a house in Lithuania only to find out that her grandfather’s death is connected to a mysterious relic.

As the trailer features comments by adventure game professionals like Bill Tiller (fame for The Curse of Monkey Island) and Charles Cecil (from Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars), the inspirations for classic puzzle design, cartoon visuals, and investigative gameplay are obvious. Mixing history and myths with a modern world and using real-life locations adds to immersion, hopefully evoking that same sense of adventure the 90ies offered.

The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until May 13, 2022, at 3 PM UTC.
