GOG celebrates “The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind” 20th anniversary with 2 freebies and a sale

Bethesda Softworks‘ classic fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has turned 20, so GOG decided to offer The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall as free games, in addition to a new sale.

After having written the GOG celebrates “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” 7th anniversary with free goodies and a sale article, I thought that this was actually nothing compared to the 20 years of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, a game that has collected quite a lot of dust in physical box form on my shelves. I still haven’t come around playing it (or the expansions which are included in the GOTY version on GOG), because its playtime is intimidating. Anyone who wants to learn more about the history of this RPG can check out the GOG blog article.

The Elder Scrolls: Arena came out in 1994 and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall in 1996, so they’re even older with 8 and 6 years before the GOTY edition. They were already given away as freebies if one bought games from Bethesda’s back catalogue, but now they have simply become available for everyone to enjoy. Anyone who is interested in more classic or modern titles from the publisher can do so by heading to the promo sale page and buy them with individual discounts before May 26, 2022, at 10 PM UTC.

There’s also a very cool project that has come to its end on this fan website which celebrates those 20 years with a free book to read. The Bethesda making-of and trailer below make the success of the whole series more tangible, too.

Using the GOG links and buying the products also helps ;).
