GOG’s fifth freebie of the Summer Sale is Microids‘ 2018 remake of Paul Cuisset and Delphine Software International’s classic 90ies action-platformer Flashback.

Flashback is based on the 1993 SNES version of an Amiga classic that originally came out in 1992. It’s about scientist Conrad B. Hart who has to find his way back to Earth after being kidnapped and brought to the colonized moon Titan of the planet Saturn.

Even back in the 90ies, the fluid animations were amazing, and I still fondly remember seeing the game in action on a friend’s Amiga. The newest version coinciding with the 25th anniversary offered players a chance to experience it with original graphics and sounds or have a Modern version that has graphics which are a bit too washed out for my taste. It also has additional content with the Director’s Cut that has 2 exclusive cutscenes. A rewind feature should please those who have a hard time adjusting to the hardcore difficulty.

Flashback can be downloaded for free until June 23, 2022, at 1 PM UTC. The Summer Sale runs until June 27, 2022, at 9:59 PM UTC and there will be one more freebie in the coming days/week.
