Insert Disk 22‘s sci-fi adventure game Born Punk isn’t all serious, but adds a bit of comical flavor to the genre.
It’s no secret that cyberpunk has been booming for quite some time, but the stories told in games and characters one meets aren’t always known for comedy elements. This isn’t to say that Born Punk is a humorous title, but a bit of lightheartedness is welcome, especially since the premise is that three people become possessed by otherwordly entities and they have to find out why, as the fate of humanity is dependent on their success.
One plays all of them in order to solve puzzles together: corporate combat hacker/bartender Eevi, CEO Mariposa, and malfunctioning android Grandmaster Flashdrive. The latter is probably the most prominent example of the developer’s approach to a cyberpunk thriller plot. Of course the influences of past point-and-clickers are plain to see, especially with Beneath a Steel Sky, but a touch of The Secret of Monkey Island can be found, too.
The game is out now on PC with a 20% launch discount that lasts until June 25, 2022, at 6 AM UTC. There’s also a soundtrack that is exclusively available on GOG.
