Eek! Games‘ unique sandbox game House Party throws its Early Access state out of the window.
Anyone who likes classic or modern teenage flicks will see where the inspirations come from, only this time one doesn’t simply watch some crazy or sexy stuff happening on-screen, but actually sets things into motion oneself. Invited to a party at Madison’s house by best friend Derek, the player soon sees how out of control the night gets, including people getting out of their clothes, too.
It’s telling that the game has received an 18+ rating, which means there’s enough room for drinking, indecent behavior and nudity (the latter only in the uncut version). With all sorts of NPCs that are obviously familiar to those with a knowledge of teen movies (or even real life fraternity parties), one has a wide range of conversation and action choices to make. These can lead to some romance or a hit in the face scenes, but also more hilarious moments. As each character has their own background stories and feelings towards the player’s decisions, it’s all a bit like The Sims, only in a far less family-friendly way.
The game entered early access in June 2017 and is now finally out on PC in its 1.0 version with a 10% launch discount that lasts until July 29 2022, at 10 PM UTC (at least on GOG, as the discount only lasts until July 22 on Steam). Those who want to experience the whole uncut package will have to pay for a special DLC, though, which is a bit disappointing, considering that these patches are usually available for free (as the Kagura titles have shown).
