GOG release: “Space Trader: Merchant Marine”

HermitWorks Entertainment and Meridian4‘s classic open-world sci-fi trading simulation game Space Trader: Merchant Marine makes its journey back to DRM-free space on GOG.

Infinite space is a perfect fit for sci-fi and strategy games, and Space Trader: Merchant Marine is a good example of how to offer players the chance to do what they want, at least as far as the designers want them to. The main goal is to become the master trader of the solar system which can only be achieved by making as much money as possible via trading.

As one hops from one planet to the next, one doesn’t only buy and sell goods, but also takes on bounty missions. So both strategic thinking and fast reactions are required, with the game throwing FPS elements into the mix. The game certainly hasn’t aged well in graphics, but the way it tackles different genres is still unique in a market that is flooded with 4K strategy titles these days.

Space Trader: Merchant Marine was originally released in July 2007 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 75% launch discount that lasts until August 5, 2022, at 1 PM UTC.
