Moon Moose and tinyBuild‘s crime syndicate business simulation game Cartel Tycoon takes off from its Early Access ground.

The parallels to the Tropico games are obvious with the Latin American setting, but instead of playing a dictator on an island, one steps into the shoes of a rising drug lord in the fictional 1980ies. As one tries to stay on top of the drug production business in competition with other kingpins, one also has to be careful about US organizations like the DEA, CIA and even the army that could shut it down forever as well as kill the one who’s responsible for its growth.

It’s clear that the subject matter is controversial and that violence is depiced as a natural consequence of the drug wars. But just as the GTA series, there’s certainly something intriguing about indulging oneself in morally questionable actions. With its pretty cool aesthetics, it’s great to look at, too, while one loses oneself in a deep logistics system to produce and sell drugs with a profit.

The game entered early access in March 2021 and is now finally out on PC in its 1.0 version with a 30% launch discount that lasts until August 9, 2022, at 4 PM UTC. It’s also available as a soundtrack bundle as well as a supporter bundle, the latter of which including an artbook in addition to the game and its music.
