Halloween isn’t too far away, and with autumn it’s probably the best time of the year to play some chilling games. By the looks of it, The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow fits perfectly, as it’s about antiquarian Thomasina Bateman who wants to write about the barrows of England, only to find out that in the surrounding area of small village Bewlay, there are stranger things going on.
While 2015 movie The Hallow did a good job to deliver some scares in the countryside, it’s a completely different thing to investigate on one’s own. Interviewing suspicious villagers as well as landowners who hide secrets add to the moody atmosphere, not unlike the 90ies Lovecraftian point-and-clicker Shadow of the Comet. With all sorts of animals and more supernatural creatures prowling around, this won’t be a game that can easily be played alone in the dark for sure.
The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until October 5, 2022, at 1 PM UTC.
