GOG release: “Hover Ace”

GSC Game World‘s classic futuristic combat racer Hover Ace makes its exclusive digital debut on GOG.

Yesterday I covered Midnight Legends, a game that uses the hovering mechanic, in this GOG release news, but Hover Ace is a bit different, because it hasn’t received a Steam release yet and it’s not a recent title. Being over 20 years old, the closest comparison is probably POD Gold from 1997 which also featured a first-person perspective that emphasized the breakneck speed at which one races around.

Driving a hovercraft on Venus, Mars, and the Planet of Glaciers, in addition to Earth, at 500 km/h in a post-apocalyptic world might not have materialized just yet, but who knows when this exhilarating and rather scary experience will become reality? With 10 opponents, it’s clear that one also has to have enough firepower to get them off the track, which means 12 types of weapons. It’s all guilty pleasure sci-fi, but this escapism might just be what one needs in a pandemic that simply won’t go away.

Hover Ace was originally released in December 2001 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 50% launch discount that lasts until October 10, 2022, at 1 PM UTC.
