Mr. Nutz Studio and Microids‘s re-imagining New Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja hits hard on arcade action nostalgia.

I already covered the original 1991 game in the GOG releases 8 more Ziggurat Interactive games news, and it seems that Microids has become quite fond to revive classic titles (as the various Asterix & Obelix games show). So it’s no surprise to have an HD version of an older title to please a new audience.

Of course it’s a matter of taste if one likes or dislikes the new look (and there also appear to be a few sound issues people complain about), but the overall gameplay remains intact: 2 cave dudes trying to get their village’s women back from Neanderthals and beating up dinosaurs or other pre-historic animals/people along the way. In addition to the graphical update, there is a new extended mode that offers a longer game experience, while training, boss rush, score attack, and speedrun modes cater for different kinds of players, too.

The game is out now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in both digital and retail form, although I couldn’t find any links for the Microsoft consoles, while the PS4 retail version can only be pre-ordered in the UK. It’s all a bit confusing, but a 10% launch discount for the PC version that lasts until December 8, 2022, at 9 AM UTC, is fine gesture.
