Owned by Gravity and THQ Nordic‘s turn-based 4X strategy game SpellForce: Conquest of Eo brings the series into a whole new dimension.

The SpellForce series is known for having fused RPG and RTS elements for a very long time (and it’s still taking some for me to write the reviews), and the newest entry (I mentioned in the Past gaming events: gamescom 2022 (quick overview with social media) article) does things quite differently. Of course the main fantasy world remains the same, with the individual factions of orcs, humans, elves, etc, but the goal changes from being a hero saving the world to becoming a more powerful mage than the others.

Clearly inspired by games like the Heroes of Might and Magic titles or Lords of Magic, the gameplay is about exploring maps, expanding one’s influence or realm, completing quests, recruiting an army, eliminating the opposition, and gaining lots of magic spells. Resource management is also part of the process of making one’s magic tower more powerful, while a crafting system adds to variety. As the campaign is procedurally generated with over 600 adventures, longevity is a given, too.

The game is out now on PC with a 20% launch discount that lasts until tomorrow, February 10, 2023, at 11 PM UTC. In addition, if one buys the title on GOG, then the classic Lords of Magic: Special Edition will be added to the account for free, too.
