Motion Twin and Evil Empire‘s rogue-lite Metroidvania action-platformer Dead Cells literally goes back to its inspirations with the Return to Castlevania DLC.
It’s quite common for indie developers to fall back on long-established genre tropes, but it’s rare that this would result in an official collaboration with the franchise the company is so fond of, namely the Castlevania series, as the hero is asked by Richter Belmont to destroy Dracula in his castle lair. Hopefully this will spawn other games, e.g. a mix of Hollow Knight and Duck Tales maybe?
Featuring 14 weapons from the classic series, in addition to being able playing as some of the Castlevania characters, the game also has an alternative soundtrack of 51 original tunes of the franchise. Suffice it to say that boss fights or any other combat sequences stay true to both Dead Cells and Castlevania, so it’s really a match made in pixel heaven.
The DLC is out now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox One Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, with the base game having a 40% discount. One can also buy the new expansion with the original game in a special bundle or get all the DLCs together in the Medley of Pain bundle to save even more money. All the offers last until March 20, 2023, at 6 PM UTC.
