Hello Penguin Team LLC and PID Games‘s metroidvania platformer Vernal Edge embraces martial arts and a more colorful world.

Every day there’s a new metroidvania or indie platformer, it seems, and what separates this game from others is probably a more colorful approach to pixel art and the focus on martial arts. Young Vernal looks for her estranged father, but she soon learns that her quest is one of revenge and finding the truth about the past.

Accompanied by her amnesiac automaton Chervil, Vernal traverses floating islands with an airship and masters various deadly martial arts skills to defeat enemies. It’s obvious that the biggest selling point is the fluid combat system, but the vibrant colors in the individual levels present a much needed alternative look in a genre that is usually associated with darker tones.

The game is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch with a 10% launch discount that lasts until March 21, 2023, at 6 PM UTC.
