Ishtar Games and The Arcade Crew‘s tactical fantasy roguelite RPG The Last Spell breaks out of its Early Access walls.

If the mix of RPG and roguelite elements sounds like the typical indie gaming fare or the story of mutants rising from a purple mist that was the result of The Cataclysm the mages used to end all wars seems to be another excuse for dark fantasy, then it’s surprising to learn that the game has more in common with tower defense titles. In order to finally get rid of all the magic and therefore the mutant threat, the titular spell has to be cast. The only way to do this is to protect the mages who brought misery to the world in the first place so that they can perform an incantation without any interruptions.

This is easier said than done, because a constant onslaught by hordes of enemies over night that are ready to storm the castle walls means preparing during the day with defenses in both building and heroes form. Think of The Lord of The Rings‘ Helms Deep Battle and you get the picture of how intense the fights will be, accompanied by some synth heavy metal music.

The game entered early access in June 2021 and is now finally out on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in its 1.0 version with a 10% launch discount that lasts until March 23, 2023, at 3 PM UTC.
