Game release: “Cryptmaster” (PC)

Paul Hart, Lee Williams, and Akupara Games‘ bizarre dungeon crawler Cryptmaster is all about using the right words.

One can be sure to have a very interesting game when it comes from publisher Akupara Games, either in presentation or gameplay. This title really shows the company’s knowledge in original concepts, as it’s about four heroes who have been brought back by the titular necromancer after having destroyed a big bad evil along time ago… and now have to reach the surface through the strata of the city.

While the story might not seem so original, the gameplay certainly does, as interacting with the world and obviously fighting with different abilities involves typing or speaking words. It’s similar to Typing of the Dead, but with more freedom thanks to exploration, puzzle solving, and the various characters’ skills. One also encounters new gameplay types like creature collecting, card combat, and even bard rap-battles. The very imaginative background and creature designs with their monochromatic presentation are also worth mention, in addition to some excellent voice acting.

The game is out now on PC with a 10% launch discount that lasts until May 23, 2024, at 4 PM UTC. Both the soundtrack and artbook can be bought separately, but without the discount.
