Lightfoot Brothers‘ comedy adventure game The Mystery Of Woolley Mountain makes DRM-free ground in another world.
The Mystery Of Woolley Mountain has received a bit of Kickstarter fame thanks to backers like Ron Gilbert, responsible for The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (see the review) and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge (see the review), but its inspirations, especially the art style, are more in line with cartoon series like The Simpsons and Adventure Time. As a crew of time-travelling audio scientists, one’s task is to save a group of children that has been kidnapped by an evil witch on the titular island.
The five members of the Helmholtz Resonators are certainly an illustrious cast of characters who are thrown into an even stranger world of beasts, witches, automatons, and ropemen. Of course solving tricky puzzles is part of the job of an adventurer, using all the different skills and mindsets of the time-travelers.
The Mystery Of Woolley Mountain was originally released in April 2019 and is now available DRM-free on GOG with a 50% launch discount that lasts until tomorrow, May 24, 2024. It can also be bought as a Deluxe Edition or Complete Collection. The former includes the soundtrack, artbook, and comic prologue, while the latter adds The Story as a PDF or Interactive Sonic eBook to read.
