Humble Audiobook Bundle: Smart Fun! Best of Public Radio

Writing about games and movies is all well and good, but there are also other exciting media, as the Humble Audiobook Bundle: Smart Fun! Best of Public Radio proves.

The reason why I got into this bundle was Star Wars, as it features Star Wars: The Original Radio Drama, a great auditory experience, as it uses the same sound effects and music in addition to some original actors like Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO. It might be a bit long with almost 6 hours, but it’s not a cheap rehash of George Lucas’ A New Hope movie, as it includes more dialogue and background stories.

I’m happy to have found this, especially for the great pay-what-you want philosophy, as it’s possible to get the bundle for even less than 1 Dollar. Annoying: The Science of What Bugs Us is a pretty interesting, academical approach to what annoys us. With everyday examples and scientific explanations, it might not be that easy to follow at times, but it’s thought-provoking and funny.

If you’re more of the comedian persuasion, then NPR Funniest Driveway Moments might be for you, as it hosts quite a few well-known personalities like Dame Edna or Mel Brooks, although I’d always choose the latter when it comes to listening to jokes and also the voice. Personally I’m not so fond of political or big crowdpleasing comedians, but maybe The Best of Wait Wait . . . Don’t Tell Me! could make me a believer, or not. It’s for you to decide if that sort of humor is yours.

There are even more audio books when paying more than the average (around 9 Dollars at the time of writing), including NPR More Funniest Driveway Moments, NPR Laughter Therapy: A Comedy Collection for the Chronically Serious, Fresh Air: Just for Laughs, The Best of Pop Culture Happy Hour, Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me! The Best of Not My Job, Teenage Diaries: Then and Now, and NPR Driveway Moments: All About Animals. Paying 15 Dollars or more unlocks Car Talk: 25 Years of Lousy Car Advice, Lake Wobegon Family Reunion, and NPR Laughter Therapy: Funny for a Living.

Now of course humor is always subjective, and I’m sure not everything will resonate with everyone. But if you’re a fan of Star Wars, then the bundle is worth it for the radio drama alone, especially since the retail version is so pricey these days. So grab it while you can before the offer expires in less than 4 days.
