New additions to the media collection in September 2019

September 2019 meant a new PC set-up, but also the usual selection of games, movies, books, and boardgames to be added to the media collection.

A good start with the exclusive cover version of the Retrogamer magazine and this should serve as a teaser of what I would buy next month…

The EDGE magazines arrived quite late, but at least they did.

One LEGO magazine from the month before and the current one equals delivery problems in Germany, too.

More LEGO games I missed out the first time around, as there are just too many to keep track of.

The same held true for these AAA games, but as it’s always the case: Anyone who can wait a few months or so will get these quite cheap.

Bargain hunts on flea markets are always worthwhile if you find something that is quite rare or you didn’t even know existed in the first place.

The Star Wars saga retold in Shakespearean, how cool is that?

Even better: Back to the Future and Mean Girls Shakespeare-style!

Despite being quite a dark tale, The Dark Crystal makes for some good old-fashioned fantasy storytelling for kids, too, as can be seen in this children book my girlfriend gave me as a present.

This is what a collector’s edition should look like, and for just EUR 10, it’s a steal if ever I saw one.

Some bloody action I have high hopes for being good.

I remember this Sherlock Holmes adventure fondly from my youth, and it’s certainly entertaining fun if a bit silly, but I’d choose this instead of most modern and more serious adaptations, as it has that Indiana Jones meets Harry Potter feeling.

Comedies can’t come any sillier than with Holmes & Watson which is as funny as you can expect from Will Ferrell (forget about the bad reviews), while Action Point might not hit all the right notes, but somehow recreates that 80ies and nostalgic theme park feeling of yesteryear. Bullyparade: Der Film was one of the movies I already watched in March 2018 on Amazon Prime, but it’s one I liked to have in my collection, too.

A French exclusive import (with English subtitles) that looks like an intentionally funny adventure movie.

Pure drama or drama combined with action, comedy, and weirdness, depending on the movies.

Horror with varying degrees of splatter, suspense, and humor. Despite not having a great time with the first Annabelle, let’s hope this one is much scarier or at least more engaging. The second Goosebumps should be perfect for Halloween (although it won’t be part of the upcoming movie special week). I still have a sweet spot for the original Buffy: The Vampire Slayer flick, even though it’s miles away from the cult TV show.

If The Nun is only half as scary as her appearance in The Conjuring 2, then this should be a shocker. Unknown User was a surprisingly effective horror movie that was the perfect example of what the internet community could do to each other, so hopefully this sequel will be just as good. I haven’t watched the original The Wicker Man yet, even though I’ve heard good things about it. Still, it’s a “classic”, so I’ll be careful about this one, maybe watch it together with the much-hated remake… Still have to get that one.

The last one of the fun trilogy, even though I can’t remember much of the first two.

A French exclusive director’s cut of a thriller I’ve heard so much about but haven’t come around watching yet.

One of the few German movies that can be called effective in the thriller/horror genre.

This remake can only be better than the rather tame original, and anything in 3D can be fun, even if it’s a dance movie.

It’s interesting how many movies are only released in France, like this 3D version.

Last but not least all the hardware for building a new PC (including a new 27” screen) that can finally run all the latest games, especially the new review copies.

September was quite an expensive month, especially with the new PC, but with earning some money with the new job (also thanks to my kind collegue to build the PC for me!), it was about time to upgrade. Next big investment: a 3D/4K projector to finally watch all those movies! Time to save some money now…
