Numantian Games‘s strategy game They Are Billions mixes fantasy and steampunk in unexpected ways on GOG.
They Are Billions might at first seem like your typical kingdom-vs-undead/orcs-kind of game, but it’s set in a future after a zombie apocalypse nearly annihilated all mankind and humans try to survive in colonies. Being ordered by the ruler of the New Empire, Quintus Crane, one has to build armies and defend against the infected, while making use of all sorts of old and modern technology.
Building dwellings and finding food as well as resources to recruit troops, while also upgrading one’s fortress is typical RTS fare, but as the technology also includes Tesla towers or power plants, plus lots of futuristic weapons, it’s a different proposition. With thousands of enemies attacking, this can’t be any more epic and tense, especially since one’s own people can become infected, adding to an even higher number. It’s a good thing then that one can use the pause button to plan the next steps. Presented in a Victorian and Steampunk style, this zombie apocalypse is anything but ordinary.
They Are Billions was originally published in June 2019, but it’s now available DRM-free on GOG with a 20% launch discount that will last until September 6th, 1pm UTC.
