New additions to the media collection in January 2021

January 2021 was a rather quiet month for collecting.

As the Future Publishing/Magazines Direct subscription deal again failed last month, I at least received some Retrogamer mags in January, although the same couldn’t be said about EDGE… a neverending story that will soon find its conclusion…

More retro love in book form thanks to a present from my best friend.

Another present, this time from my wife, and it seems to be just as insightful and fun to read as The Little Book of Otters.

Another graphic novel adaptation of one of my favorite Pratchett books, featuring a very different art style.

The LEGO Star Wars magazine arrived too late so that I couldn’t buy it before the end of the month, but these Shakespearean versions of the latest movies should do just fine, and they seem to improve on the source material as well (hopefully making Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker more bearable with their terrible storytelling).

Time for an action movie that is hyped as being so bad it’s good.

Speaking of bad, this flick seems to do the same for the fantasy genre, and there’s even the original Schwarzenegger audio track that was dubbed later on, because no one understood the actor’s Austrian accent.

And now for something completely different: a remake that makes the original pale in comparison, and it’s even gorier in this extended cut.

One just has to wait a little bit in order to experience the original Psycho in its uncut version, plus the three sequels, the remake and a TV movie in this nice box that is finally affordable.

Last but not least, there were two new additions to the 3D collection. The second LEGO movie was again fun and I still have to watch Rise of the Guardians again in 3D, as I don’t remember much from the 2D version. This was actually a movie I thought I already owned, but it kind of slipped through my fingers.

The beginning of the new year was easy on my money purse and again gave me the opportunity to go through all those additions of 2020 (and all the other years), which was a good thing that I seem to continue doing in the near future.
