Gears for Breakfast’s action-adventure/platformer A Hat in Time doesn’t only receive new areas to explore with the Seal the Deal DLC, but it also provides a co-op mode as well.
It’s been a while since I wrote about the release of the original game last year and unfortunately I still haven’t come around playing it, despite being a big fan of cute platformers and action-adventures with an emphasis on creative gameplay and colorful levels as in Psychonauts. But maybe having waited for it to receive a multiplayer update and new levels was worth it, because as some people who bought it have already said: The only disappointing thing is that it ends too soon with not enough levels.
The Seal the Deal DLC unlocks the chapter The Arctic Cruise taking place on a big ship where a cigarette-smoking walrus is the captain giving out tasks for the time-hopping heroine to complete, with or without the help of more-than-cute-looking seals. This obviously involves a lot of running around, collecting items, and pixel-perfect platforming segments. If this wasn’t difficult enough, then one can try the tough-as-nails Death Wish challenge mode or explore six new Time Rifts. One shouldn’t jump into the game before having had some experience with the base game, though, as The Arctic Cruise requires 35 and Death Wish requires 27 Time Pieces to access. The inclusion of a free local couch 2-player co-op mode is also welcome, although it’s a bit unclear if this comes as an update for owners of the original or if one really has to buy the DLC (which wouldn’t make it “free”).
The DLC is out now on PC, and if you buy the base game today (September 14) until 6 pm UTC, you’ll receive it for free.
